Gold Leather by Atelier Cologne c2013

Gold Leather by Atelier Cologne: launched in 2013. It was released as part of the Collection Métal, created by perfumers Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel. To further enhance the metal theme, the bottles are richly covered in genuine precious metals, making an industry first.

The bottle for Gold Leather is appropriately cloaked in a shimmering gold finish. For those that enjoy the refreshing feeling of splashing cologne onto their skin, the removable spray pump can be removed. The 100ml and 200ml bottles sport a handcrafted leather cap for a luxurious touch.

Atelier Cologne created a new fragrance classification with their Cologne Absolue line. What sets these colognes apart from the usual is the generous absolue concentration of 18%-20% essential oils, which gives the wearer a longer lasting and powerful sillage.

From Atelier Cologne:
"'A man of such great power and charisma could have anything he asked. Despite it all, he could not have the only thing he really wanted. For the first time in his life, he had found the absolue woman and he was a better man for it. He would not let her go. Anything but that. He would trade all the gold in the world to be with her.'
Silver Iris and Gold Leather are the first two Cologne Absolue in this distinctive collection. Celebrating the lustrous beauty of rare elements and enriched in craftsmanship and character, the Atelier Cologne story continues."

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a leather fragrance for men and women.  Gold Leather Cologne Absolue concentrated at 18% (pure perfume oils)
  • Top notes : bitter orange from Seville, Indian saffron, Jamaican rum
  • Middle notes : plum, davana from India, eucalyptus from California
  • Base notes : fraction of guaiac wood from India, fraction of cedarwood from Texas, leather & oud accord

Gold Leather is also available in perfumed soap. What I like about the Atelier Cologne soaps is that they are hard-milled, vegetable-based and enriched with aloe vera for its soothing qualities and shea butter which nourishes the skin. But the best part of their soaps is the high concentration of citrus oils that offer not only a clean, refreshing and invigorating experience but also a skin-softening, frothy lather. The presentation is completed by a signature band of aubergine leather wrapped around the soap.

Gold Leather can also scent your living spaces by way of Atelier Cologne's luxury candles which are handcrafted using traditional candlemaking techniques. They are custom made with a blend of premium vegetable and paraffin waxes which ensure an even burn that will last up to 50 hours. To capture the true essence of the Cologne Absolue, each candle is scented with a specific composition made with a very high percentage of fragrance oils.

I received a sample of the Cologne Absolue from a Facebook friend and sprayed some on the back of my hand. Immediately I smell the plum, almost black and very jammy, made rich with boozy rum. Spiked with saffron and davana. There is only a hint of citrus from the bitter orange and the eucalyptus is unlike medicinal eucalyptus, it smells like a very high end potpourri, which I love. Deep into the heart, there is a resemblance to Tom Ford's Black Orchid here. The leather in Gold Leather is not the 'in your face' fetish leather, it is very subtle and balanced by the supporting notes of the precious woods and plum. The woody notes are exquisite, they really make this a unisex fragrance. There is nothing here to masculine or too feminine.
